Free Downloadable Resume Template - Should You Really Be Using One?

A free template can be a great aid to help you with writing your resume. Of course, you want to create a resume that will emphasize your strengths, skills, and experience related to the position you’re seeking in a company. Over the Internet, you can find a lot of templates that can be downloaded for free.

What benefits can you get from using a free downloadable resume template? You get to save time and energy when you write a resume with the help of a template. You don’t have to waste your time doing an extensive research online just to know what types of information should be included in your resume. You can do that simply by looking at the template that you downloaded. Also, if you’re confused with the formatting that should be used in a resume, you can take a cue from your downloaded example.

When you use a free downloadable resume template, you also won’t have to worry about the layout of your resume. It’s because you can use the layout provided by the template. You just need to fill in the necessary information under the different headings (objectives, employment history, skills, etc.), proofread them, and your resume is good to go. But if you want to change the layout of your resume to match the type of industry you’re applying for, then you can do so as long as you keep the format and font styles consistent throughout your resume.

However, using a free template can be a great starting point, but it’s not wise to rely on one too much. Many other people will also have access to the same template, and there’s a chance your hiring manager may “see through” your resume and pass it of as a generic application - which is something you don’t want.
